And a series of ordinary but sinister events begins to torment the Bentwood couple. The novel immerses the reader in the tense atmosphere of Bergman's psychological films and Hitchcock's thrillers, keeping incredible suspense until the very end. The 1971 film adaptation starring Shirley MacLaine (several awards from the Berlin International Film Festival)
