Sanssouci Palace, a bar in Riga's historic district, a random song whose title just won't come to mind... In each of the three parts of Andrey Levkin's new book, the text arises from observations of reality and then itself becomes an object of reflection. A walk through Potsdam and Riga or internet surfing through iconic rock albums turns into a step-by-step peeling away of the "outer" layers of reality, an attempt to reveal the spirit of place and time. Levkin's distinctive writing strives for extreme precision, bringing it closer to poetry: thanks to this feature of his language, the imaginary and real spaces of Europe described in the book open up to the reader in full.
