An interpretation of the two most famous and mysterious paintings by Venetian painter Giorgione: "The Tempest" and "The Three Philosophers" — a challenge that several generations of researchers have tried to solve. In the book by Salvatore Settis, repeatedly republished and published in Russian for the first time, the author critically analyzes existing scholarly approaches reflecting key methodological shifts and conflicts in 20th-century art history. Settis carefully works with historical sources that help form an understanding of the political context of the era in which Giorgione and his patrons lived, as well as the circumstances of public and private life.
