ILLEGAL USE OF NARCOTIC DRUGS, PSYCHOTROPIC SUBSTANCES, AND THEIR ANALOGUES HARMS HEALTH; THEIR ILLEGAL TRAFFICKING IS PROHIBITED AND ENTAILS LEGALLY ESTABLISHED LIABILITY. The novel "Glass Houses" continues the series of investigations by Senior Inspector Armand Gamache. This charming character is created by Louise Penny, the world's only five-time Agatha Christie Award winner. In the village of Three Pines, Halloween is joyfully celebrated. However, the festive mood fades when a strange figure in a black cloak and mask appears on the village meadow. Police Inspector Gamache, wanting to understand who this person is, tries to talk him into leaving. But the stranger stands firm, though he seems to intend no harm. It turns out he portrays a cobrador — a Spanish debt collector who in the Middle Ages pursued debtors, silently appealing to their conscience. To whom did the cobrador come in the village of Three Pines? While this question preoccupies the locals, the stranger disappears, and in the church basement a dead body in a debt collector's costume is found. One of the guests who came to the celebration has been killed. The motive for the murder is unclear, but it seems the victim saw something not meant for outsiders...
