This last collection of essays published during Susan Sontag's lifetime includes more than forty texts written and published from 1982 to 2001. It represents a series of seemingly disparate critical works united into three sections: "Reading," where Sontag asserts new literary canons — works by Machado de Assis and Robert Walser; "View," in which the writer provides insightful and expressive commentary on photography and cinema; and "Here and There" — a series of notes reflecting on her own creative path. But as one reads, Sontag's texts, invariably emotional and lyrical, form a unified picture of her unique vision of the world of art and her place within it.
