Yusuf's father sells his son into slavery to pay debts. At first, Yusuf ends up in the shop of his new owner, and later he travels across the country with a trade caravan. The collapse of the old world, intertribal wars, superstitions, questions of slavery and internal freedom seen through the eyes of a boy together with the issues of growing up and forbidden love illuminate for the reader a dense fabric in which Africa wraps its beauty and cruelty. Abdulrazak Gurnah is a 2021 Nobel Prize laureate in Literature, an English writer of Tanzanian origin. The novel "Paradise" is published in Russian for the first time. UDC 821.111 BBK 84
