For a true gentleman, meeting a blonde is never without consequence — both literally and figuratively! The famous screenwriter and writer Anita Loos (1891–1981) experienced this many times firsthand: she associated herself with the brunette Dorothy — the worldly-wise friend of the charming blonde Lorelei Lee. A wonderful storyteller, Loos began publishing short stories about Lorelei's life in "Harper's Bazaar" in 1925, and thanks to their popularity the magazine's circulation quadrupled. The book "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" and its sequel "But Gentlemen Marry Brunettes" (1927) were a huge success, as evidenced by the appearance of a Broadway musical adaptation. And in 1953, a film featuring the unforgettable Marilyn Monroe in the lead role was released.
